Library Communications Intern

The Bethel Public Library is a small rural nonprofit library serving the town of Bethel and surrounding communities.   We have a variety of Books, DVDs, Museum Passes, Library of Things, Puzzles, Games, and Computers for our patrons to use.  Recently we incorporated interlibrary loan and an audio book lending program.  The library also host many community meetings and events including Legislative Breakfast, Game Days, and Bethel History Talks.

Our small library is full of folks passionate about providing access to our community through our part time librarian and board members.  By interning with us, you'll have the opportunity to work with many folks with different work experiences.

We are hoping an intern can help us move forward with projects we have not had the time to work on, therefore an intern could learn:

  • Creation of a website that serves a community based non-profit organization
  • Working with a team of library staff/trustees to prioritize goals for the summer
  • Research free/low cost cataloging programs that would service the needs of a small rural library.

Additional tasks could include creating signage for the library, including how-manuals for digital tools, inventorying books, and creating a community newsletter.

This position is part of a cohort of 12 interns working with organizations that support the White River Valley Community Schools. Funded by the UVM Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships, free housing for interns will be provided at Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT. Interns will participate in a week-long community orientation, weekly intern cohort workshops for professional development, networking, and reflection and a final sharing event on Monday, August 4, 5:30-7 pm.
